Adventure that gives back to the mountains
We are proud to share that Andean Raju Expeditions is an official “Aliado por la Conservación” (Ally for Conservation). This is the APC mark, granted by SERNANP, Peru’s National Service of Natural Protected Areas.
For us, it is more than a logo on our website. It is public recognition that the way we guide, cook, camp and travel in the Andes helps protect the places our travelers come to see.

When you trek to Laguna 69, climb Pisco or walk the Huayhuash circuit with us, part of the story is conservation. Here is what that means.
What is “Aliado por la Conservación”?
“Aliado por la Conservación” (APC) is a mark awarded by SERNANP, the government agency that manages Peru’s system of Natural Protected Areas. It recognizes producers, entrepreneurs and companies whose work supports the conservation of Natural Protected Areas and Private Conservation Areas.
The mark has a simple promise: conserving together creates well-being that lasts. Every product or service that carries the seal stands for three things:
- Care for biodiversity and healthy ecosystems
- Fair treatment of the local people and producers who make the experience possible
- Respect for every part of the natural and cultural environment
SERNANP takes the mark seriously. It has built a quality management system under the ISO 9001:2015 standard specifically for the APC mark, so each ally is part of a supervised, accountable program, not a self-declared label.
The seal itself shows a tree that brings together flora, fauna and community: leaves, birds and roots growing from the same ground. That is exactly how we see the Andes.

Why it matters when you choose your tour operator
Most of our routes run inside Huascarán National Park, a protected area where glaciers, turquoise lakes, Polylepis forests and Andean wildlife depend on careful use. Choosing an APC ally is a simple way to know your trip supports that protection.
- You can verify it. APC is granted by SERNANP, not invented by us. Sustainability you can check is better than a green claim on a brochure.
- Your money stays in the region. We work with arrieros (muleteers), cooks, drivers and families from Huaraz and the surrounding communities.
- You travel the way tomorrow’s travelers will. SERNANP describes sustainable and regenerative tourism as the tourism of the future. We want these mountains to look the same for the next generation of trekkers.
People protect what they know and love. Every traveler who walks these valleys with respect becomes part of that chain.
What it means on our treks and climbs
The APC mark sits alongside the other commitments that shape every Andean Raju Expeditions departure:
- Official SERNANP authorization to operate in Huascarán National Park
- Registered agency with DIRCETUR / MINCETUR
- IFMGA / AGMP certified mountain guides, with a maximum of 2 clients per guide on technical peaks like Alpamayo
- ISO certification and Carbon Footprint certification
- Civil liability insurance and first-aid trained staff
On the trail, that translates into small daily choices. We follow park rules and established routes, pack out what we bring in, and hire locally. Meals on our full days feature regional dishes like fried trout, so our travelers support the families along the road.
Whether it is a full day to Laguna Parón, an acclimatization climb on Mateo or ten days around the Huayhuash, our adventure specialists bring the same standard.
Conserving together
Being an Aliado por la Conservación is a responsibility we renew with every group we guide. Thank you to every traveler, arriero, cook and guide who has walked these mountains with us. This recognition belongs to all of you.
