LAKE 69: THE SAPPHIRE OF THE CORDILLERA BLANCA
Lake 69 is located in the Cordillera Blanca and its name indicates its registration number among the 802 lakes inventoried in the Huascaran National Park, which is considered a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and a World Natural Heritage Site. During the thawing season, the lake is fed by a waterfall that falls from Nevado Chacraraju.
Lake 69 is one of Peru’s most famous and iconic treks, a challenging one-day trek at high altitude. Travelers from around the world come to Huaraz for adventure tourism, and Lake 69 is one of their favorite attractions due to its easy access and the spectacular views that this destination provides.
During the hike to the lake you can see mountains such as: Huascaran south and north, Nevado Pisco, Nevado Chopicalqui and the amazing Chacraraju.
Laguna 69 has an altitude of 4,604 masl and represents one of the most important destinations in the Ancash region and is located near the Huaraz.

Participants must be in good physical condition to join this trek. Andean Raju Expeditions recommends previous and constant preparation as a crucial factor to take on this challenge, then, the physical stress caused by the trekking will be minimized.
We strongly advise all participants to have an adequate outdoor training plan and short hikes with gradual demands.
If you would like our advice, we can provide you a training plan after evaluation of your experience in hiking and sporting activity.
Participants should have experience in altitude, which ensures adequate acclimatization and conditioning of the body to the altitude. It’s suggested to be above 3,000 m.a.s.l., so we recommend staying in Huaraz two or three days before the tour to Lake 69.
We suggest acclimatizing in the Wilcacocha or Churup lake before starting this tour.
