PANORAMIC HIKE TO LAGUNA 69

An exclusive and little-traveled route that will take you to Laguna 69 with landscapes you never imagined.
This tour starts from the Portachuelo viewpoint on the Llanganuco highway at km 42, where you will witness one of the most beautiful sunrises offered by the Cordillera Blanca, with a 360° panoramic view of colossal mountains such as: Huascarán Sur (6,768 m) and Norte (6,650 m), Chopicalqui (6,354 m), the four peaks of Huandoy (6,354 m), Pisco (5,752 m), Yanapaccha (5,460 m), and Chacraraju (6,001 m). You will also appreciate the contrast of the landscape with turquoise lakes: Orconcocha and Chinancocha, and the Llaganuco Valley with all the splendor of its Andean flora.
The hike to Laguna 69 is surrounded by waterfalls, high Andean flora, and five glacial lakes. Definitely spectacular postcard landscapes.
If you love nature, challenging hikes and exploration, then this route is for you.

Itinerary

Day 1Huaraz (3,100 m) – Yungay (2.458 m) – Portachuelo Viewpoint (4,650 m) - Laguna 69 (4,600 m) – Huaraz

The tour starts at 3:00 a.m. in the city of Huaraz.
The Andean Raju Expeditions team will pick you up at your hotel in private transportation. After pickup, we head north through the Callejón de Huaylas to the town of Yungay. From there, we turn east along a secondary road towards the Quebrada de Llanganuco and then to the Portachuelo Viewpoint (km 42). At the entrance to the Huascarán National Park protected area, we will stop to register and pay for tickets (S/. 30 soles for foreigners and S/. 15 soles for Peruvians). After a 3-hour drive, we will arrive at the Portachuelo viewpoint to enjoy an incredible sunrise, with landscapes gilded by the sun’s reflection on the mountains and all the sounds and colors that nature offers us in this area. We will have breakfast and continue the hike along a trail shared by mountaineers who want to climb the Yanapaccha peak. After a 20-minute walk, we will stop at the Chacraraju and Yanapaccha viewpoint, from where we will descend to a small glacial lake, walk around it, and then connect with the classic Laguna 69 trail. On this route, we will stop at the second viewpoint to photograph waterfalls and the Chacraraju mountain. We will continue walking to the Consuelo Cocha lake. From here, the walk is flat along the Brogui valley. The last kilometer is the most demanding part, as the path goes uphill. After walking 7km, we will arrive at 69 Lake to enjoy its sapphire colors, the surrounding landscape, and the loneliness that envelops the lake at this time of the morning. We will have lunch at the lake and return along the classic trail until we reach Cebollapampa valley, where transportation will be waiting to take us to the city of Huaraz.
